Cleanliness is Not Always Next to Godliness
"Also I gave you cleanness of teeth [no food to eat] in all your cities. And lack of bread in all your places; Yet you have not returned to Me," Says the LORD.
(Amo 4:6)
Where no oxen are, the trough is clean; But much increase comes by the strength of an ox.
(Pro 14:4)
Clean is not always a good sign. Clean teeth could be due to not having any food to eat. A clean stall could be due to not having any animals to feed. And people who focus so much on being "clean" sometimes are not willing to help people at the risk of "getting dirty".
So how does this apply to your walk with the Lord? One thing that comes to my mind is the idea that being a Christian is refraining from doing bad things. Some people think that a sign of being a good Christian is that they don't do a lot of bad things. Well, if refraining from doing bad things is what makes you a good Christian than living in a closet would be one of the most spiritual lifestyles you could choose. But is that really what living for the Lord is really all about?
Read through the teachings of Jesus, and then tell me what God really thinks is important. Faith and works of love. Some people are so clean because they are not out working in the field.
Get your hands dirty in the name of Jesus! :)
Yours in Him,
Pastor B.
